Phone Call Home: Monday, June 27, 2022

Elder Garcia didn't call today until later which is fine but it also means not a long call to catch up and see how things are moving along. I am grateful still nonetheless for the little moments we get and for the chance to see his face. :)  This week we talked about the following: - They were able to find a good amount of new ami's. They didn't hit their goal but they are grateful for the new ones they did find and excited to see what is in store for them - Elder Garcia had interviews with President Proudfoot this week. He thought with transfers coming up this next week that he would get an idea of what is in store for him but that wasn't the case at all. Instead he said it was a very different interview. President asked him about his plans after the mission. (He has officially hit the 1 year now) That caught Elder Garcia off guard a little but he said they had a good talk about it. He also got asked how obedient he was. This was interesting for me so I asked why. Was ...

Week 54 Email: The Zoo and the Bar

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, June 27, 2022 Subject: The Zoo and the Bar Bonjour tout le monde!  Ok so last week there wasn't anything really exciting except ya know... lots and lots of rain and lots of calling people from the apartment. It was probably the longest feeling week of my mission because we did absolutely nothing! Thankfully this week was so much different and I loved it a lot more!!  This week we started off different than normal haha. We went and had a great District Council but as we were coming back I started getting body aches. Like you guys know when you're coming down with the post flu shot hurt? Yeah a lil something like that. It's safe to say my comp told me that we weren't going out on bikes... kinda sad but better to talk to everyone!! That night I also went to bed with a nice fever but slept like I was dead so it's was great. The fever went away and I wasn't feeling sick by Thursday which was great becau...

That's right! A phone call with Mom while she colors her hair! Elder Garcia did not make any sound via a Facebook message or even a phone call all morning today so I figured either he was busy or I somehow ticked him off. Thankfully it was the first and not the latter. :)  Elder Garcia and his District decided to go to the local zoo today for pday. Local ghetto zoo. That's what he said anyways. He was excited to meet up with other Elders and spend the day and just do different. I wish I could convey how thrilled I was to hear that they weren't just hanging at the apartment all day! Go out and experience Africa while you are there!!!  There is a set of Sister missionaries who would be coming along who have become very accustomed to the Elders taking care of expenses for them if they are out and about and Elder Garcia decided he was going to use this outing as a teaching tool. A big thing you learn as missionaries is to budget and these Sisters were not even taking not but in...

From: Mom! To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Saturday, June 18, 2022 Subject: Cold again Hey! How are you? How  was this week? Did you have exchanges? What is new with your area and the Elders in your District? How are you feeling about the work of a missionary as this week comes to an end? Do you have ami's planned to be at church tomorrow? Overall, did you get a chance to feel the hand of the Lord in all things? Were you open and receptive to Him leading you to where He needs you to be? This week for us was busy but it kept things moving along which is good. Brooklyn had volleyball again Monday-Wednesday. She is really loving it and I think actually misses it when she isn't there. I love that. This week she goes two hours for vollelyball and then an hour and a half being in the weight room. I am certain she will see fabulous results real quick with how little body fat exists on her person. Volleyball starts at 9am this week so she won't get to sleep in...

What a joy it was to start a day with Elder Garcia today. He had Zone Conference this past week and really dug into "What is the doctrine of Christ?" It was taught to him that he needs to fully  understand that and not just go out teaching it. It was a lot of fun sitting by and listening to him describe what it is he took from that meeting and how he is hopeful to move forward and implement those lessons. The current sector that Elder Garcia is in has a very young branch. This is both good and bad. Good in that the members are young and eager to help. They get excited about welcoming in new members and helping them transition to member instead of ami. The flip side is that because they are young, they work. A lot. Just to get by. So they aren't always readily available when and/or if the missionaries need them. I can see where that would be hard but I hope that Elder Garcia and those other working missionaries can have some grace and continue to do all they can. There was...

Week 52 Email: Zone Conference and Learning

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, June 13, 2022 Subject: Zone Conference and Learning Salut mes amis et ma famille!! J'espère que vous portez très bien cette semaine!! Okay so this week I am hoping that I have some.more to share plus some pictures haha! Let's hop right into it shall we... • We had Zone Conference on Tuesday and I seriously love President Proudfoot and Sœur Proudfoot! I know I say it everything but they are seriously the best. We had amazing lessons concerning the Doctrine of Christ, more on that later haha.  • Because of Zone Conference I got to say hey to all the people that have made my mission amazing up to this point (minus a few who are either in Benin or are now finished with thier mission)  • This week we found our schedule packed but sadly when it's like that people drop... but they do that anyways and always ask for another day so it was a lot of switching around this week haha • This week we had some follow-up lesson...

Reply to Mom's Email: Monday, June 13, 2022

From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, June 13, 2022 **Reply to  Mom's Email** I'm doing really good this week actually. Feeling wise is great, I'm not feeling sick and I've found that if I get an upset stomach that working out for 10 minutes more gets my metabolism moving better than before so then I don't feel sick haha. I have also been sleeping decently well. I haven't been waking up as much and I've used my sheets a couple of times this past week, mainly because of the mosquitos but sometimes because it was a little chilly and comfortable. We had Zone Cinference this past week and those are always one of my most favorite things. With that we got new phones so the 4 cameras are better than what we had haha. And it works smoother and faster too so I'm not as annoyed anymore with it. Still hate the stupid thing and that we use them as much as we do to talk to people but it's also a blessing because without them we wouldn...

From: Mom To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Saturday, June 11, 2022 Subject: Feels like Summer Good morning How are you? How are you feeling? How’s life in Africa treating you? How is your companion and how is your District doing? What are some of the key moments you experienced the hand of the Lord in your life this week? Life here is good. It has been absolutely beautiful weather and we have all enjoyed the pool and just being out and doing. Brooklyn is going to be so dark before the end of the month and she continues to add to her color each day. She stays constantly on the go between having friends here and having friends’ houses to go to. She really is living her best life. We are officially one week down on volleyball camp at the High School. She had a great time and loved going. She looked forward to going every day and I never had to remind her to get ready or anything. I’m really proud of her for trying something new and for sticking with it. She is alre...

Week 51 Email: Some exchanges and rain

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, June 6, 2022 Subject: Some exchanges and rain Bonjour tout le monde!! This week was lots and full... for the most part. We got hit with some rain too so hot days cooled down nice haha. Here's some highlights and maybe some pics for y'all  - We had an amazing District Council and I definitely felt the Spirit when we were doing roleplays (first time that ever happened)  - Did some more baptismal interviews and met some very prepared sons of God. They got baptised this past Saturday too!! The sisters here are awesome - Went on an exchange with Elder Deafon (the Zone Leader) and introduced him to "hawaiian pizza;" it was interesting and had corn on it with pineapple and ham. Surprisingly good but with a whole new flavor twist - We got rained in on Friday but Elder Proffit and I made a chess board and taught our companions how to do that so now there's always a game going haha - An electricity pole went ka...
