From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, August 1, 2022 **Reply to Mom's Email** This week was good, I was able to do little things for him and it seems better. Though he doesn't really want to talk to me still. Still working on that one but small and steady too.  He's gonna do lots of good stuff. Chayse was always really quiet until you got o know him haha. It makes sense, if you know him, why the chapel was full. Everyone loved him. Nobody ever had anything bad to say about him either, he's just an all around good kid. It's weird that they're leaving on thier missions to me. Idk why but it just is. It's good to hear Bryce got his call too. Ohio is gonna be cool. It'll be very different from here but in all good ways haha.  Confidence can be hard when you have a bunch of girls together. Even if they are your friends it's always a competition and bad talking. I remember that well from some of my friends, so I can imagine that t...

To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Sunday, July 31, 2022 Subject: Sunday I am not sure how it is already Sunday! But…here we are and here it is nonetheless. How are you? How has your week gone? We’re you able to try and focus on your companion a little differently this week? And if so, were you able to see or feel a change? Even if it was just a small one? Today is Chayse Vickers farewell and the chapel is full. It is exciting for him. Bryce Larsen also got his call this last week to Ohio. I am happy to hear they are all headed out. I think it will be good. His farewell was good. Even Ty spoke and all of them were up there teary eyed and bawling. This week was full here at home. B had her final 3 days of volleyball gym. Tryouts are tomorrow and she is not overly thrilled to be made to be trying out. I just wish she had some more self confidence. It’s tricky. We have also been working on getting her online gym all done because she has her test this Wednesday that s...

Week 58 Email

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, July 25, 2022 Bonjour tout le monde!! Comment vous allez?? This week was a great week full of miracles! We had an exchange, Zone Conference, a little sickness... all the normal stuff you know? Here's some highlights • We started off the week with Zone Conference... and wow what a spiritual high I was on after! We talked so much about our own faith and how that's a key factor for each one of us whether we be a member, missionary, leader, friend or investigator. I always love Zone Conferences, this time it was a little different because the zone's split into 3 and that was a little shocking but it all worked out and we were all able to share and learn.  • I was able to do an exchange this week with Elder Proffit! He is such a cool ad chill guy and I very smart and very helpful in teaching me in how I can be a better missionary and person. We were teching this new convert and her daughter when her daughter said ...

From: Mom To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Sunday, July 24, 2022 Subject: Almost normal Hey How are you? How was this week? How is the bike riding  learning coming? How is your companion healing up with his dental work?  We got home from Lake Powell on Thursday and I think today is the first day I don’t feel like I am swaying like I am on a boat! I don’t remember it ever lasting this long but holy cow. It was a good trip. The Riddles (Chuck and big Matt) showed up one day which means Banning told them where we were which is super annoying but other than that, it was a great trip and I think everyone really had a good time. Brooklyn already wishes she was there again. It’s going to be a long year for her to wait.  We left Friday to come to the cabin. The Millers joined us as well. The weather is perfect. Gray clouds and cooler here. I am excited that this week at home will be in the 100’s for the pool but for now it is nice here to curl up under a blank...

Week 57 Email: Late...oops

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, July 18, 2022 Subject: Late...oops Bonjour tout le monde. Ou bonsoir dépendent ou vous êtes maintenant   how is everyone this week! Sorry this email is so late! We deeeeep cleaned today and so I haven't had the most time. Here's some highlights... - We had some amazing member lessons -I ate some porridge and benigets this week from members and they were delicious - I got to do some baptismal interviews... and those are always some of my favorite things - we got to DEEP clean the apartment so it is 100% propre rn (it smells so good y'all) This week my companion had to get 2 teeth pulled at the dentist so we weren't able to go out to sector a whole lot but I did do lots of study. And I found some scriptures in Mosiah 5 that I wanted to share with everyone. The verses are 7 & 8... 7 And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for ...

Phone Call: Monday, July 18, 2022

Well...the no call for today falls on me because I was in the middle of Lake Powell and without service. Thankfully Elder Garcia understood and gave me a break. :)  Lake Powell this year was good. We had our own houseboat and put the people we wanted on it. We had the Miller family, Ben and Shannon Barker and their kids (they are friends with the Millers), Darin and Keri Pugmire (Tyler's cousin and his wife and family), Clint and Alisha Holindrake (Tyler's friend and their kids), Banning and Addie, Brylee, and little Banning (it was AWESOME without Jaime and Savannah!), and us. Everyone helped out and the kids all had a blast. I think overall we will call this year a win. We learned a lot and we will make changes moving forward but for now I think we will all agree that it was nice to escape and to get away and now we can start planning for next year. This time next year we may have a married kiddo and Elder Garcia will be home to join us as well. I am already looking forward t...

Reply to Mom's Email: Monday, July 18, 2022

From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Sunday, July 18, 2022 **Reply to Moms email** This week has been interesting. Friday-Sunday we didn't really get to go out to sector because my companion got 2 teeth pulled out. The dentist said it was better to do 2 at a time so that it wouldn't hurt too much. So we get to do that again in 2 weeks. It's alright though, it gives me an opportunity to serve him and I like it. The goals for the district are coming along. My district is awesome and they're super good at making sure that they are following up with everything. I don't have to ask or bug very much either so that's a plus. Like the sisters are calling me to make sure that I'm seeing their information. It's really nice. My companion told me that on Mondays he doesn't want to learn how to ride a bike so that's not coming as of right now haha. Hopefully in due time though :) Early email this week wasn't too bad. I figured it would ...

From: Mom To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, July 14, 2022 Subject: Lake Powell Hey, How are you? How has your week been? How are your goals coming along? How is your companion doing with learning to ride a bike? Now that you are in charge of setting goals, how does that work and what kind of goals are you working on and hoping for in this transfer? Things here are good this week. Trying to get ready for Lake Powell has proved trickier than I though it would be. Just a lot of work mostly but it's okay. You just don't realize the amount of behind the scenes work when Chuck does it because he won't let you help. That is why you get an early email this week too. We are leaving to stay the night in Page tonight so we can load the houseboat around 10am tomorrow and get out. Tyler wants to go to a new canyon so we can avoid the Riddle bunch who are scheduled to be down on Saturday. That means for sure we won't have any service so I wanted to make s...

Week 56 Email: New Companion!!

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, July 11, 2022 Subject: New Companion!! Bonjour tout le monde comment allez-vous?!?! I hope that y'all had great weeks this past week! For me this past week was great and I loved it too! My new companion is great and I know that we are going to have a great transfer or time together, we aren't sure if it will be more than 1 transfer here together or not haha. So to start off this week we had transfers and I had to say a goodbye/see you at Zone Conference Elder Mulamingu. It was pretty sad because he is a really fun and great guy and an amazing missionary. I feel lucky and blessed that I was able to do 2 transfers with him here in Sanguera. My new companion's name is Elder Ipatutele (e-pa-to-tal-ay) and he's from... yep you guessed it. Congo. I don't know why it shoced me so much because the Congolaise are like 90% of the African missionaries but I thought that it was going to be a different country.  Thi...

Pday calls at the cabin Another week has already flown by and Elder Garcia has learned that with this upcoming transfer, he is staying where he is. He is excited about it and knows there is work to do so he will just keep pushing on. We were at the cabin this weekend for the holiday so we dealt with some connection issues but we were able to talk for a bit and it was nice catch up. Elder Garcia told me that the Zone has now been put into 4 Districts instead of just 2. I wonder why that happens and what the Mission President sees you know? I always think it would be interesting to know the 'why'. I don't want the responsibility by any means, I just want to know! Ha Elder Garcia also shared that they are now the ones that will be responsible to set goals and not the Zone Leaders. This adds to his plate some as a District Leader but perhaps it will help him to see the reasoning behind some of the past goals set and he will be able to help keep the mission moving.  We talked so...

Week 55 Email: Transfer news

Image
From: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Monday, July 4, 2022 Subject: Transfer news Bonjour mes amis et ma famille!! J'espère que vous allez très bien et aussi que vos semaines ont passé bein. Joyeux Indépendance! Yeah so this week was an interesting last week to the transfer. I loved it so let's get into it and I'll let y'all read haha.  So this week started off with a nice little goodbye to the district bc we all knew that people would be getting changed and everything. We had a great last training on how to always be united with your companion no matter who they may be.  We went a few days with some craziness because we were supposed to have some baptismal interviews but then they got canceled and rescheduled so we had to rearrage our schedule but thankfully everyone was okay with that. We got one of our amis to have her interview and the other one we don't know where her new house is so it's a little challenging to talk to her, especially bc s...

From: Mom! To: Christian.garcia@missionary.org Date: Sunday, July 3, 2022 Subject: 4th of July Is it so crazy that it is 1, July and 2, the weekend of the 4th already? I swear time is flying by. We were on our way up to the cabin yesterday and Brooklyn and I were talking about how this time last year you were getting ready to go to Africa and we were all talking about how this time next year (2022) Kaitlyn would almost be home. Now here we are! So...how are you? How was your week? Have you heard anything transfer wise? Do you know what is in store for you next? How did your work go with finding new ami's this week? Did you end up having a baptism with the interviews you had this week? Things here are good. We spent the week dealing with wind, rain, and a backed up pool drain so the lower deck was flooded. Thankfully we were home though and Tyler was able to get the opening a little bigger to accommodate the amount of water that has been coming down. We have a ton of cl...
