Subject: Exchanges and Rain Again
Bonjour tout le monde!! I hope that all of you have had a good week and that school and everything was good this week. This week I did an exchange and all of the sudden the rain started up again... Togo weather is almost as bizzare as Utah's haha.
To
start off this week we had our first District Council of the transfer
and I am really excited for this district. We had a really good week in
doing the work 2 weeks ago (the 1st week of the transfer) and I saw that
everyone is ready to keep it up. We talked a lot about how it is that
we present ourselves to our friends and what kind of questions we could
and should ask to help understand what it is that the amis need and want
to learn by talking with us. We were also able to apply that to our
lessons this week too! I saw so many times that when we did that too,
people were more willing to have us come back and they seemed to trust
us more. I am really looking forward to this transfer to say the least.
We
had some really good days when it came to talking to people and that's
always nice beacause you get food too haha. There was one day this past
week when I went on an exchange with Elder Brunt. He's from Washington
state and has recently got to Togo from Benin at the beginning of thi
transfer. He's like a cool older brother that doesn't beat you up! He is
also really hard working and is ready to tackle Togo with everything
that he's got. On Thursday, the day of the exchange, we had an ami
(friend) that we hadn't contacted in my sector but we had a lesson set
up with him so we asked where he lived and it turns out that he lived
WAY out of our sector but there weren't any missionaries that were even
near him besides us so we headed out towards him to see if it would be
worth the travel distance on bikes to go and teach him. Well it's safe
to say that after 45 minutes of biking and racing some random kid on a
side rode we decided that it would be better to invite him to come to
church first so that we could teach him there. We didn't even make it
halfway to his house and there was a lot of roadbolcks and sketchy roads
and everything... as of right now Kossi Ayeo hasb't come to church but I
have the faith that he will one day so if you could please pray for him
so that he can come we would be overjoyed!
Friday
was a little bit cooler than normal but we didn't think much about that
because there have been days like that for the past couple of weeks but
when we woke up on Saturday it had rained! That was really weird
because we have been told that we are now entering the "cold" season and
tehre won't be any rain or moisture dropping from the sky. So waking up
to see that it had rained was really odd. And then on top of that it
kept raining so we decided that we were going to play UNO as an
apartment. Africans love UNO so much and they get really into it. I'm
pretty sure that I mentioned that last week. It continued to rain on
Sunday and that scared us with all of the people that could come to
church but it actually didn't do much this week, we still had a lot of
people come and new people too! In church we talked about the Plan of Salvation and
the importance that it has in our life as members of the church and as
people in general. Elder Oaks gave a really good talk back in April
about that. I highly recommend it (link:https://www. churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ general-conference/2022/04/ 51oaks?lang=eng)
This
week we were asked by President Proudfoot to study a talk given by
Elder Bednar from 2008 General Conference. Elder Bednar talks about
prayer and how it is that we can become closer to our Heavenly Father
through prayer and the benefts of prayer. He gave a story of how his
wife was challenged to offer a prayer of gratitude by an apostle of the
Lord when they were over BYU together. Elder Bednar then gave us all a
challenge by saying, "Let me recommend that periodically you and I offer
a prayer in which we only give thanks and express gratitude. Ask for
nothing; simply let our souls rejoice and strive to communicate
appreciation with all the energy of our hearts." This week I am going to
give all of us the same challenge. To pray and to not ask anything,
just to send our heartfelt gratitude to our Father.
Thank
you all for reading another email and for all of your emails! I love
them, and I promise that I read all of them even if I don't respond
quickly.
Beaucoup d'amour,
Elder Garcia
