Phone Call Home: Monday, August 15, 2022

This week we got to have Tyler jump in on a call with us which always makes for fun. :) I was outside with Teeter and he came out and wanted to listen in and share some thoughts with Elder Garcia. Some of the things that Elder Garcia shared this week are:

- Transfer news came in and he is staying in his same sector again. He is getting a new companion and he is looking forward to getting to know him better. He is also super stoked to be staying where he is

- We talked a little more about school for when he gets home and have learned that we don't need to put much thought and effort into it just yet. He will hit 14 months next week so at the start of the year to mid March or so we will take a look at what he will need

- We talked a lot about trying to capture the mission for those of us here at home and those that are reading his emails each week. I told him that when people ask me how he is and how his mission is going, I have to just say "He seems happy and he is still in Africa so I count that as a good thing". I know what he is eating and I know that he has shopped for African fabric and had different pieces of clothing made. Other than that, I don't know much. We talked about the ami's he is working with, his companions, the branch members and leadership. I tried to convey to him that although it has become normal day to day for him, it is still freaking Africa for us and we would really love to learn what we can. I asked him to be more intentional in his emails, almost like he is writing a book for someone. He told me he would work on it and that he hadn't sent an email just yet because he wanted to talk about what I meant when I wrote that in my email

- We talked some about school starting here and how quickly time keeps passing by

- Elder Garcia told me that he saw a funny this week. He was out with his companion and a motorcycle drove by. Not uncommon but what was uncommon was that the driver of the motorcycle had a huge tire around his waist while he was driving! Elder Garcia said he was sure it was to replace a flat on a different vehicle but that it was so wild. (I reminded him that things like this are exactly what I was hoping to learn about)

All in all, I think Elder Garcia is looking forward to these next 6 weeks in this transfer. He is still a District Leader and he still really enjoys the baptismal interview part of that calling. I pray that he will seek out and trust the Lord in all his doings and that he will rely on the Lord to direct him to those who are seeking and yearning to hear from the missionaries. It was great to catch up this week and I look forward to hearing how this upcoming week will go.

I love you for forever,

Mom
