Phone Call Home: Monday, August 1, 2022

I am not entirely sure how it is already August! This year is flying by. I know I have said it in other posts but for some reason, today with it being August...it just seems to be even more so.

Today Elder Garcia and I were able to talk a little and it was fun to listen to what he is up to now. Some of the key things we talked about this week are here:

- Elder Garcia was able to feel good about some changes that are happening within himself as he prayed for his companion this last week. He was able to recognize that he sees his companion differently than before which has turned into a different kind of love and appreciation

- Elder Garcia had a good day at church yesterday. The ward has decided to be anxiously engaged if you will when it comes to helping the missionaries rather than having the work solely on the Elders. This will make a huge difference and Elder Garcia is excited about this.

- Elder Garcia learned a lot about the educational system in Africa this last week and it has formed a new appreciation for the education he has from here at home. He talked about how some just don't get to go to school and how he has seen multiple children (like age 12 or so) working in a mechanic shop rather than being at school. This is hard for him and he hates to see it but he also recognizes the cultural differences which also helps him appreciate where he is.

- Interviews with President Proudfoot are tomorrow. Elder Garcia has been listening to some Hank Smith devotionals which has triggered some questions he is looking forward to asking President about

- Transfers are coming up again already in two (2) weeks! Crazy how they just come and go

- Elder Garcia has been able to reflect on the past year and recognize the growth he has had in aspects of life. He apologized to Elder Obeya for making the first transfer of his mission so tricky when it really was just an Elder who showed up from Utah unprepared. He recognizes that each transfer, whether he stays or goes, is a blessing and he needs to relish in just merely having the opportunity to be where he is at. I hope that this continues as he progresses forward.

- We talked about how quickly this mission will come to an end and to really grasp whatever he can from where he is to those he is around. Real life hits hard and fast and if you can learn all the great things that can help catapult you into great when you get home...I say take full advantage and hit the ground running. It sounds like Elder Garcia is aware of that too and is looking forward to what is in store for him next.

We didn't talk long this week but it still appears that Elder Garcia is in good spirits and that he is happy and thriving. He is looking forward to interviews this week and I hope that the questions he has are answered.

Keep pushing forward. Don't forget to love and embrace the moment you are in this very moment. I love you.
