Pioneer Day Weekend

We got home from Lake Powell with enough time to get some laundry done and pick up Elder Garcia to head up to Oakley. We had full plans with the Miller family starting Friday night after the MTC classes were done.

Bull Wars! It sure sounds a lot better than what it actually was that is for sure. It started out with bull riders doing their thing, only this time it was BAD. Kamas Days is pretty much the red headed step child of Oakley and Bull Wars was 100% black and white proof. The bull riders were not good. I am almost certain that Tyler and Jason could have thrown on a cowboy hat and some boots and said they wanted to ride a bull and they would have let them. I think a total of 4 riders made the full 8 seconds all night long. They also had about 2 hours worth of 'horse pulling' that we were so sick of that we didn't stick around for the fireworks. But we sure weren't alone. We stayed until the event was over but about 2/3 of the crowd left when the bull riding took a break for the horse pulling. Yeah, bad.

Saturday morning we all got up and had some breakfast. We were heading to the Rose Family cabin at 10am so Tyler, Elder Garcia, Jason, and Akaela could participate in their annual horseshoe tournament. To say it was overwhelming is an understatement. There were so many people and so many dogs running around that you just weren't sure what direction to head in. Jason, Akaela, and Tyler were in the losers bracket with their partner and Elder Garcia was in the winners bracket. For Akaela and Elder Garcia it was a good thing their partners were good because I don't think either one of them had ever thrown a shoe before! Anyways, the day dragged on and on and on. Tyler and Jason were out but the other two were still in. We had tickets to the demolition derby so we ended up grabbing the kids and Elder Garcia (he handed off his spot to someone else) and headed out. Jason and Akaela would meet up with us when she lost and was done.

The derby was a lot of fun. We got way last minute seats so not the best best view but still the kids had a good time. About 1/2 way through, the Millers arrived and ended the night with us. We did not stay for fireworks again because it was late and everyone had had a super long day at the Rose Cabin and in the sunshine. Plus the Millers were getting up super early Sunday to head to a family thing.

In all, it was a good weekend and we all learned a thing or two about others. I learned not to get Bull Wars tickets again that is for sure! Once we headed home we all knew it was time for one last week of home MTC, a missionary flies, school starts, and life just keeps moving on.

Happy 24th of July 2021,

Mom
